Made in Bedford

@ Number 13

The first Eco Café and shop in Bedford

Made in Bedford was created in May 2016 to promote the work of local artists, designers, makers and producers. By supporting the work of these local creatives we encourage homegrown talent and innovation, promote sustainable products, support the local economy and help our planet by reducing transport emissions.

In addition to running Bedford’s largest arts and crafts markets, the twice yearly Artisan Fairs, Made in Bedford has now created an eco cafe and shop at Number 13, St Paul’s Square. We keep the menu small to avoid food waste, using seasonal locally grown ingredients where possible. We serve vegan and vegetarian food, cooked either in our kitchen or by local food makers, who can also benefit by taking over our kitchen for a day to offer their own menu. Our coffee comes from Wooden Hill Coffee Company. Not only does the coffee taste great, it is roasted just 16 miles away from the cafe and part of the profits from coffee sales goes to plant trees in the Forest of Marston Vale.

We keep the number of items and ingredients that require refrigeration to a minimum. We compost as much as we can, including our coffee grounds, we re-use and recycle packaging and do not use single use plastics. Our take-away cups and lids are 100% biodegradable and compostable. Greetings cards are packed in cornstarch bags. We do not use plasticised foil, so don’t stock crisps. Even our shop fittings were made from reclaimed wood and furniture! Regular workshops, creative and community meetings take place in the cafe, details are posted on the events section of this website.
