We are very pleased to welcome Christian Webb to Made in Bedford at No.13. A Bedford based photographer, Christian documents every day scenes and objects or ‘types’ and through digital manipulation, displays them in series that reshape the way we perceive the world around us.
In this new exhibition: ‘Distinction Within the Familiar’, Christian has embodied the natural hues of the sky in a more progressively abstract manner, taking inspiration from the ‘Abstract Impressionists’ and ‘Colour Field’ painters of the 1940s and 50s.
All images are taken and edited by Christian and then carefully arranged using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. The creation of diverse images on a theme (also known as a typology) constructs a combination of images that build a picture of everyday life in a way we are not familiar with. There is an element of surprise when building the images, as the concept does not always match the qualities found in the end result.
HQ in our small but perfectly formed space. Christian Webb graduated from Bath Spa University in 1999, where he was awarded a degree in Ceramics and Photography. Christian qualified as a teacher of A-Level photography and graphic design at Sharnbrook Academy, where he continues to work.
In 2017 Christian had an article published on his typologies in Practical Photography magazine. Since then he has continued to path his own unique viewpoint on this specialist technique. He sites Andreas Gursky, Bernd and Hiller Becher as his primary photographic inspiration.
